Day 24: Nibbling at nestovers

Day 24: Nibbling at nestovers

April 25, 2018

While D29 can't truly self-feed yet, it explored and nibbled at a ripe-looking nestover today! The eaglets begin self-feeding on previously prepared prey items - opened up fish, leftover squirrel and rabbit bites, or plucked birds, just to name a few possibilities. Once they've mastered that, they'll move onto learning how to defeather, defur, and unzip their own prey prior to eating. Nibbling at nestovers is an important milestone on the way to self-feeding!
