D32 coughed up a pellet today. Eagles digest meat, but the indigestible parts of prey (fur, bone, scales, fish tails and fins) are squeezed into a pellet that is cast back out of the eagle\'s mouth. Why is this a milestone? The perfectly proportioned little bites that Mom and Dad carve up for newly hatched eaglets are all digestible meat. The eaglets don\'t start getting the indigestible bits until they are old enough and experienced enough to handle them. The first pellet marks an eaglet\'s transition from \'baby food\' to something more like adult food, although it will be a while before our eaglets are able to prepare their own prey.
