What's a hungry eaglet to do when Mom isn't around? Feed itself! D29 got tired of waiting for Mom to bring in a snack, so it took advantage of an already unzipped squirrel to feed itself. It won't be long until the eaglets are not only tearing their own bites, but also defurring, defeathering, and descaling their own meals!
Remember the bonking that began on D29's third day of life? As scary as the babylet battling looks, it's hard for the eaglets to truly damage one another with their tiny talons, small beaks, and light bodies. But at this stage, the eaglets could really hurt one another if they engaged in a serious battle over who gets what. While the eaglets will practice their table manners - stealing, mantling, and tug-o-war - the already-established pecking order helps keep their tussles from getting out of hand.
