Why preen only yourself when you can preen your sibling, too? Allopreening helps keep feathers in tip-top shape in those hard to reach places and is an important bonding activity for family members.  A recent study of allopreening in birds found that allopreening between between breeding partners is more common among species where parents cooperate to rear offspring. Once again, the eaglets are practicing adult behaviors.
